The graduate school of International Area Studies comprises two degree courses. These are Japanese Area Studies and Chinese Area Studies. The purpose of the graduate school of International Area Studies is to cultivate experts in regional studies who are equipped with objective and creative viewpoint based on solid understanding and knowledge of the studies. This purpose is achieved by an in-depth and systematic education and research on the politics, economy, society and culture of Northeast Asia, including Japan and China. Based on the understanding of history and culture of Japan and China, students will focus on specialized research on the comtemporary issues in politics and economy of the region.

To nurture regional experts who pursue peace, stainability and sustainable development in East Asia

1. To cultivate professional skills for reading and analyzing regional changes of East Asia in the global area
2. To develop creativity that suggests a new paradigm for the better life of people of East Asia
3. To nurture practical experts who are making an effort to build harmonized East Asian community
